keystone '06
Six incredible days at keystone and what an awesome (but extremely cold) adventure we had. everybody in our party made gains in ability over last year's trip but if i may blow my horn for a moment, yours truly gets the trophy for most improved. let's not forget, i actually took my skis off and attempted to walk down schoolmarm (the big green beginner's trail) last year because i couldn't go more than 30 feet without hitting a tree or the ground.
that was definitely not the case this year. julee and i skied most every blue run in site and more importantly, made tracks all over north peak and the outback. these two peaks are higher in elevation than keystone's main peak, mount dercum, and they boast no green beginner runs.
we did encounter some trouble in the deep powder of an ungroomed mozart but that was the only day of difficulty.
okay, so posting to our site daily while skiing was a farfetched idea. after skiing all day and most nights, who has the energy to sit at a computer and drone on about the blur of the day gone by? not me. let's cover some highlights:
- overcoming some initial fear and can now ski practically any level of steepness
- julee's increasing love of hand warmers
- night skiing with an air temperature of -8 degrees and a windchill of liquid nitrogen
- losing a glove on a chairlift and skiing down to village with just a glove liner (ouch)
- going to breckenridge and skiing my first black run (with more to come)
- asking brent to feed our cats while we were away and then giving him the wrong house key
- skiing go devil, the only black run open during night skiing
- losing my water bottle on mozart and having to take two motrin with a handful of snow
here we are on the village webcam - thanks mike!
